We build software for benefits teams, and we write about the field we sell into. That is a real conflict of interest, so the honest thing is to say it at the top rather than bury it in a footer. Everything below is how we keep the writing useful in spite of it.

Who writes here

  • Josh AndrewlavageFounder and CEO

Josh Andrewlavage, Tobie's founder and CEO, has nearly a decade in benefits. He ran Snow Owl for five years, then spent seven at GuideSpark, a benefits-communication company that grew to $33M ARR. He met co-founder Andrew Cheng there. He studied cybersecurity and computer engineering, spent two years head-down on AI, and learned to code to build Tobie. Portland, Oregon.

  • Andrew ChengCo-founder and COO

Andrew Cheng, Tobie's co-founder and COO, has twelve years in benefits communications and insurance, in customer- and internal-facing roles. He has managed accounts from high-growth SMBs to Fortune 500 enterprises with white-glove support. He oversees operations, customer success, and program management, and has worked with Josh for years, so strategy and communication stay fast. San Francisco Bay Area.

How we source

Every factual claim traces to a primary source where one exists: the regulator, the filing, the published survey, the company’s own announcement. We link to it directly rather than to coverage of it. Where we are working from our own data, we say so and describe how it was collected, including its limits.

We do not publish anonymously sourced claims about named companies. If we cannot show you where something came from, we do not run it.

Where we are not neutral

Tobie sells an employee benefits experience platform. When we write about the category we compete in, including about companies whose products overlap ours, we say plainly that we are a competitor. We will not publish a piece whose conclusion is that you should buy Tobie and present it as reporting. Product arguments live on the rest of the site, under our own name, where you can discount them accordingly.

How we use AI

We build an AI product, so we will be specific. AI tools help us research, draft, and edit. No post publishes without a named human author who has read every line and checked every claim, and that person’s name is on it. We do not publishmachine-generated text unreviewed, and we do not generate quotes, statistics, or sources. If a number appears here, a person verified it against the source.

Images

Photographs of real people and real screens are labelled as such. Where an image is generated or illustrative, it is captioned that way. We do not use synthetic imagery to depict events that happened or people who exist.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it in place, add a dated correction note at the foot of the piece describing what changed, and update the modified date. We do not quietly edit a claim out of existence. Substantive corrections keep the original wording visible in the note.

Found an error? Write to hello@tobie.team and we will look at it.

What we will not do

No sponsored posts presented as editorial. No affiliate links. No pay-to-play vendor coverage. No republishing a press release under a byline. If any of that changes, this page changes first.
