The Tobie API and MCP server
REST routes, MCP tools, the OpenAPI document and the docs are generated from the same definitions the server runs, so they cannot drift apart. Authentication is OAuth 2.1 with PKCE for people and hashed, expiring keys for systems.

What can I build with the Tobie API?
The Tobie API and MCP server expose employee benefits over REST and the Model Context Protocol: grounded answers from an employer’s approved plan documents, HR workflows, and partner lead handoffs. Every call is scoped to the person asking and logged end to end. The reference, the quickstart and the MCP tool list are generated from the same registry the server runs, at api.tobie.team.
How does an AI app connect to Tobie?
A connection is a signed, revocable grant for one person and one app. The app adds the Tobie MCP server address, the person signs in to Tobie with OAuth 2.1 and PKCE and approves exactly what the app may read, and every call then runs under a short-lived, least-privilege token for that person alone. Tobie never hands an AI app a standing key to employer data.
Who can use it today?
Developers can build on the REST API and MCP server now. Personal AI connections for employees are rolling out employer by employer, and HR team and partner access is by invitation. Employers decide whether personal AI access is on for their people, per company and per app.

Are the plugins listed in ChatGPT?
Not yet. The plugins are not listed in ChatGPT yet. Their two MCP endpoints are live, so anyone can add one to their own ChatGPT today by pasting its address as a custom MCP server, and any other MCP client can connect the same way. plugins.tobie.team walks through the four clicks.
Does the API expose employee data to AI apps?
Only what one person is allowed to see, only after they approve the app, and only while their grant stands. The API checks scope and tenant, the database checks again with row-level security, keys are hashed at rest and expire, and every call is on the record: who, which credential, which tool, never the request body.
